NEW OPENING FOR A SEVERO OCHOA ENGINEER POSITION: "Miniaturised power converter modules for interplanetary missions"

Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas   Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía   Excelencia Severo Ochoa   HR Excellence in Research
Deadline:
January, 21st 2021
Type:
SO-IAA engineer
Code:
SO_R5_008
Introduction:

IAA-CSIC offers an engineer contract in the framework of the Project “Severo Ochoa”. Candidates are expected to carry out their activity in the field of the design of power supplies for space applications. Candidates should have a good familiarity with ESA missions’ characteristics and requirements, expertise in the development of power supplies and their characterization through the design of tests (electrical, functional, electromagnetic compatibility and so on) and test equipment like electronics ground support equipment.

Tasks:

To miniaturise the power supplies responsible for different instruments, under IAA’s responsibility, that will be on board the Comet Interceptor mission (ESA). It is proposed to design sub-systems that supply suitable voltages and currents by means of miniaturised high-efficiency DC/DC converters.

More concisely, the tasks will be:

- Design of a power converter module using DC/DC converters (discrete or based on modules) and linear regulators
- Customising the design to the characteristics and interfaces of the cameras EnVisS, OPIC and CoCa, and of the mass spectrometer MANiaC.
- Design and construction of the printed circuit board of the power supplies.
- Develop failure analysis including "worst case", "Failure Modes and Effects", and component fatigue (stress) analysis.
Requirements: Electronics engineering

Period (months):
15 months

The fellowships include a competitive salary and full health insurance. Selected candidates will be included in SO-IAA grants, which provide additional funds for scientific visits, attendance to advanced schools and workshops, and other training activities.

IAA is an equal opportunity institution. Applications to this program by female scientists are particularly encouraged.
